INDUSTRIE – What to do in the event of data loss?

In the industrial sector, IT is an integral part of production processes. The robotization and automation of production lines is constantly on the increase. The operation of tools depends on a wealth of data that would be sensitive to loss.

The importance of data management in industry

The data and information stored in supervisory stations, test benches and machines are crucial to the smooth running of production units. If this data is no longer accessible, it has a direct impact on productivity. Stopping an assembly line for even a few hours can lead to considerable delays and consequent financial losses.

Most production tools incorporate an internal physical medium on which the program and production parameters are stored. Failure of this medium would render the tool unusable. Managing and recovering this data is therefore a sensitive issue for the smooth running of the production line and the security of the company’s know-how.

Plant workflows often prevent preventive maintenance to secure these workstations. Unfortunately, in the absence of a backup, it’s difficult to get the workstation up and running again in good conditions.

How do you react to data loss on a manufacturing tool?

The first reaction in an emergency is always to contact the machine manufacturer. In most cases, the manufacturer is based abroad and has to dispatch a technical team to the site. This can take several days or even weeks. Worse still, some older machines no longer benefit from after-sales service. The company that designed them no longer exists, or no longer has the in-house resources to respond to this type of incident.

The other solution is to entrust the hardware to a data recovery laboratory. The lab will recover the data, then make a clone so that the new medium can be put back into production as quickly as possible. This delicate operation is designed to reduce the intervention time of technical teams, and thus considerably reduce downtime.

DATABACK, French laboratory for industrial data recovery

DATABACK is experienced in industrial data loss scenarios. We have set up a special department in our laboratory at La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée) to deal with this type of request.

Whether in industrial robotics, the agri-food industry or in the process of safeguarding business intelligence, Databack is there to recover your data or carry out secure erasure.
