Simple actions such as deleting files or formatting media leave a residual imprint, known as data remanence. To prevent any possibility of malicious data recovery, Databack implements permanent and definitive data deletion methods.

Data deletion by software or degaussing

deletion by erasure software: developed in-house by our laboratory, our software proceeds by logical overload, executing several cycles of rewrites on all sectors of the storage medium, in order to overwrite the data with random sequences of characters according to the DoD22-M.
deletion by degausser (or demagnetizer): our laboratory is equipped with a degausser that erases data from the magnetic layer of the storage medium, by subjecting it to an intense magnetic induction field; note that this operation renders the storage medium unusable.

HDD: erasure by software or degaussing, whatever the environment (PC-compatible, RAID system, NAS, SAN…).
SSD: erasure by software method only, given its characteristics and the nature of flash memory.

How does it work?

Deletion process

Databack’s secure data erasure process guarantees the complete and permanent deletion of the content of your media, to meet your security standards and regulatory obligations. So your organization (business, administration, healthcare establishment, etc.) can approach the renewal, recycling or decommissioning of its storage media or workstations with complete peace of mind.

Step 1 - Consultation and free quote

Databack offers you a free consultation to estimate the scope of yourdata erasure operation and any technical constraints involved. A free estimate is drawn up according to the nature of the operation (software erasure or degaussing), the type of storage medium, the volume of data, etc.

Step 2 - Secure deletion of your data

Our team will securely erase your data, according to the method chosen by you or required by the situation (type of media, reason for erasure, etc.). Our laboratory can erase data either by software overwriting (or logical rewriting), or by demagnetization.

Step 3 - Verify complete deletion of data

At the end of the erasure procedure, our team performs a scan of the storage medium to verify the success of the operation. In this way, we check whether any residual representations of the data remain, due to their remanence.

Step 4 - Issuance of a deletion certificate

Our Databack company issues a data erasure certificate to your organization or IS department. This will enable you to justify your steps and produce this certificate as part of your legal obligations (right to erasure, RGPD, etc.).

Stage 5 - D3E recycling and recovery

Databack is committed to sustainable development and environmental responsibility. In order to reprocess storage media that have been demagnetized, we take care to recover and recycle their WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), in conjunction with dedicated channels.
